This blog is dedicated to show and change the looks of ridiculous female armors (and other outfits) that women tend to have in media; such as games and comics. The purpose is to show that over-sexualized women is not "empowering", but clearly offensive and ridiculous - not to mention it's also clearly out of context. We'll also show that their clothes could be greatly improved with a touch of common sense, equality and character. Feel free to submit!
Please take note that Tica, the creator of RHA, is currently on Hiatus.

"Skip the grind! in your undies!”  the first thing that came to me when I saw this banner

After seeing so many “this game is totally about sex and not a strategy RPG or MMORPG or anything boring like that!” ads that promise me orgies, wild sex, safe word free BDSM, a completely woman free space, etc… this is almost quaint.  They’re not even making a joke about her grinding us or anything.  How are they EVER going to make it in this market with just a bikini warrior woman? xD

Is that tiny little thing even a weapon?

I actually like(d) the idea of a grown up woman!Riding Hood, in a combination of girlish wear and demonic looks, together with a tough, take-no-shit look… but it seems like she forgot the rest of her outfit.

Gloria from Devil May Cry 4 has always fascinated me with her absurdity.

I wonder, if we’d see this guy kick in the air, would we also see him in a close-up without underwear? O:

I’d just like to point out that the developers of the new Injustice: Gods Among Us game seem to be reading your blog - and this armor actually makes sense!

Am I allowed to think that every good bit of armor that comes our way was the result of content creator types frequenting RHA? Or would that go to my head and make me think WE ARE THE GREATEST BLOG EVER MWAHAHAHA… oh… that answers that question.
Still, Barbara Gordon’s looking good here. It’s a shame that, in the very same game, Harley Quinn most certainly isn’t.

Blademaster, warrior, and archer, respectively, from the Tynon class selection screen.

I admit to being a little surprised that most of the males were poorly armored, as well. Guess there was a short supply of metal and the animals got most of it.

Ah, Tynon, lovely to see more from this game. I don’t think we’d heard about the animal-loving aspect of it yet. Protect your furry friends, go naked yourself.

For those not willing to click that link, here’s a refresher in Tynon ads:

With all those fancy feathers and jewelry on her shoulder, I think she really needs to start rethinking her financial priorities…

I don’t know if you’ve been given this yet, but…what is she even wearing?! Like, seriously, how are her boobs not falling out of that!? Also, her squishy bits are totally up for being stabbed. Not sure how great of armor that is if it’s so easy to be STABBED, I prefer a full chest of full plate myself, but maybe I’m the insane one. I haven’t played the game yet, but with the advertising, I personally don’t want to if that’s the kind of armor I’d be getting.

And then compared to Tynon in-game:

This is apparently “an elite knight named Rosaline”, an archer, in her advertising/fanservice and chibi gameplay modes.  (I’m 80% sure they’re both meant to be the same character.) For the love of all things holy, someone get Rosaline some fricking armor.  She’s got a wizard to defeat and I’m sure some clothes would help with that.

So while the recap stuff has all been fixed here before, I invite people to fix the Tynon animal advocates. Which may or may not be an excellent band name.

Why is it that ALL lady-monsters are super-sexy and extremely humanoid, instead of, y’know, monster-ish? Also, why is this an excuse to make them near-naked?

repair-her-armor:

Ria is tired of your shit.

Costumes in visual media help a viewer connect with a character, and understand subtleties about who that character is by how they present themselves. When every female warrior in a video game wears next to nothing not only is it a loss for visual character development, but it means that every female is essentially defined in the same way: boobs and butt.

Which is why I love repair-her-armor so much. It’s crazy how the base “look at my boobs and butt” armor, redesigned for functionality makes you all of a sudden care about a character more. Not because she’s now clothed (or some modesty nonsense), but because viewers interpret aspects of the costume as visual cues for the personality of the character who wears it.

Reblogging for the comment above!

Trigger Warning: Rape, Violence, Torture

oyukiria

So, a while back I stumbled over the character Quiet from Metal Gear V.

The first time I saw her and the whole story about Kojima trying to justify his design with ever shittier arguments, I just got really really sad. Sad and angry actually, because even hardcore macho gamers admitted that this design was shit. Kojima’s excuse was that she’d been tortured and raped, and that’s why she was running around in a thong. You mean to tell me that in all that time she’s never found anyone who’d sell or give her some pants and a shirt? Isn’t the game taking place in a fucking desert? Where’d all her wounds and scars go? And her sunburns? What the fuck where you smoking to think that this would be a god idea?
I think I can say without bragging too much that even with my lack of knowledge concerning army stuff and outfits, I did a better job than Kojima on this one.
This can’t even be considered a redraw. It’s like starting a dress-up game from scratch.

This makes me incredibly mad. Usually, RHA is a mix between humor and seriousness when it comes to criticsizing bad female designs. However… when you go as far as sexualizing rape victims, that’s when I lose my cool.
I didn’t like Quiet’s design to begin with, nor the arguments they had in the beginning. But now… agh! There’s just so many things WRONG with how she’s designed now! If you’re going to write about something so serious and painful; make sure you do it with respect. You can’t justify this. You can’t. I could make an entire list why.
As for your Fix, good work! Now she DOES look like a character with an actual backstory now. One that fits both her setting, character and the backstory.

Tica-Maleo: Tica's Personal Blog is Back! ↗

I’m still on hiatus, but I decided to open my personal blog again.

Feel free to send me an ask about anything, even if they’re related to RHA or not.

However, take notice that I won’t promise I’ll answer it. On Ria-RHA, where you ask questions about RHA or women in media, you will get an answer sooner or later. You’ll also get a more detailed reply. So, it would be wiser to send questions regarding RHA (etc) instead to my personal blog. However, all other questions are more than welcome.

Anyway, now you know!

Take care,

Tica
